How do we calculate this?
The exact formulas used in this tab:
What this calculator does
Converts a temperature between Celsius and Fahrenheit — for fermentation, cold stabilization, storage, or the instructions on a yeast or enzyme packet.
The formula
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
Worked example
Celsius to Fahrenheit
- A red fermenting at 25 °C
- In Fahrenheit (25 × 9/5) + 32 = 77.0 °F
The red is at 77.0 °F
Fahrenheit to Celsius
- A cellar at 60 °F
- In Celsius (60 − 32) × 5/9 = 15.6 °C
The cellar is at about 15.6 °C
Questions
What temperature should wine ferment at?
Whites usually ferment cool, around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F); reds warmer, around 20–30 °C (68–86 °F). Your yeast’s packet gives its own range — go by that.
Does it round?
It shows one decimal place, which is finer than most cellar thermometers read.

Crystals in wine: what they are and how to prevent them
Crystals in wine are tartrate (KHT), not glass, and harmless. Prevent them by cold stabilizing: 1–3 weeks near 0 °C, or seed 4 g/L KHT for 4 hours.
